Karla MacTaggart
Clinical Nurse Consultant, Wound, Stomal Lymphoedema Therapy
Karla MacTaggart is an experienced Clinical Nurse Consultant specialising in wound care, stomal therapy, and lymphoedema management. With a strong clinical background across acute, community, and aged care settings, Karla delivers high-level assessment, treatment planning, and education to support patients with complex, chronic, and post-operative needs.
Karla’s areas of expertise include:
- Pressure injury prevention and management
- Diabetic and venous leg ulcers
- Complex surgical and post-operative wounds
- Negative Pressure Wound Therapy
- Conservative sharp wound debridement
- Comprehensive stomal therapy, including pre- and post-operative care, stoma site marking, appliance selection, and patient education
- Gastrostomy management
- Lymphoedema management, including assessment, compression therapy, garment prescription, and sequential pneumatic pump therapy
Karla holds a Bachelor of Nursing and postgraduate qualifications in Wound Care, Stomal Therapy, and Lymphoedema Management. Karla is a certified lymphoedema practitioner and is accredited with the Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA).
Karla is an active member of several professional organisations, including Wounds Australia, European Wound Management Association (EWMA), Australian Association of Stomal Therapy Nurses (AASTN) and Australasian Lymphology Association (ALA).
Karla is also committed to professional education and mentorship, supporting healthcare professionals to deliver best practice wound, stoma, and lymphoedema care in all settings.
